To get straight to the point with a table: the fastest is the KTX, the cheapest is the bus, and the plane isn't as fast as you might think.

From Seoul to Busan. It’s the most-traveled route in Korea. But when it comes down to it, In front of the ticket window I always hesitate for a moment—KTX? SRT? Just the bus? Or maybe a flight would be cheaper? So, these four options... Travel Time, Fare, Departure Point, Pros and Cons I've laid it all out in one place. My goal is for this single post to be all you need before you book your ticket yourself.

🚄 KTX — The safest bet
You can board right in downtown Seoul (Seoul Station) and get off at Busan Station. Busan Station is close to Busan’s original downtown area (Nampo-dong and Jagalchi). It’s fast, runs frequently, and is easily accessible, so If you don't want to think about it, just go with this.

Tickets for weekends and holidays sell out several days in advance. Book in advance on the Korail app, and if seats are unavailable, check for standing room or unreserved seats.
🚄 SRT — Cheaper than the KTX, but it departs from Suseo
The train experience is almost the same as on the KTX. There are two differences: The departure station is Suseo Station (Gangnam, Southeast District)And, the same train to Busan is About 7,000 won cheaper one-wayDo.

If you're near Seoul Station, take the KTX; if you're on the Gangnam or Bundang line, take the SRT. If you try to save 7,000 won and end up spending an extra 40 minutes to get to Suseo Station, you won't even break even.
🚌 Express Bus — The Cheapest Way to Get There

Buses are vulnerable to traffic congestion. On Friday evenings and during holidays, a 4-hour trip can stretch to 5 or 6 hours. If you’re short on time, it’s safer to avoid taking the bus.
✈️ Airplanes — They’re cheap if you catch a deal, but don’t be fooled by the “1 hour” claim
Gimpo → Gimhae, the flight is Exactly one hour. When special deals become available, you can sometimes find tickets cheaper than the KTX. However, Both airports are far from the city center. When you factor in check-in, security screening, and waiting time, it definitely doesn't feel like an hour at all.

Special fares are often available on weekdays and when booking in advance. However, be sure to factor in additional fees for baggage and seat selection, as well as the fact that booking closes 30–40 minutes before departure.
