Since this is the question most frequently asked by first-time visitors to Korea, I’ve put together a guide this time that covers everything from booking channels to payment methods for international travelers.

🚆 KTX — The answer in nine out of ten cases

Standard Class from Seoul Station to Busan Station ₩59,800, On a fast schedule, the trip takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes, but if there are many stops, it can take close to 3 hours.
Since the service is so frequent, it's usually easy to get same-day tickets outside of peak season.

The biggest advantage is the destination.
Busan Station is the heart of the city in its own right From there, get off and take Subway Line 1, which connects directly to Nampo-dong and Seomyeon.

KTX Standard Class — Use the overhead compartments and the luggage space at the end of the car without checked baggage

🚄 SRT — If you're departing from Gangnam

The SRT is a high-speed train operated by SR, not Korail, and it departs from Suseo Station in Gangnam, not Seoul Station.
The fee is ₩52,600 It is ₩7,200 cheaper than the KTX, and the travel time is about the same.

If your accommodation is in the Gangnam or Jamsil area, there’s no reason to go all the way back to Seoul Station.

🚌 Express Bus — If you're short on cash or don't have a ticket

It takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes to get from the Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Gyeongbu Line) to Busan.
You can get there for half the price of a train ticket, and even when all train tickets are sold out during holidays, buses often remain operational because they run more frequently.

🛫 Airplanes — The "1-Hour" Trap

An airplane would probably be the fastest, right?, I thought the same thing when I just looked at the chart.
The flight itself takes about an hour, and Korean Air, Jeju Air, Air Busan, and T'way operate more than 20 flights a day on the Gimpo–Gimhae route.
But when you add it all up, from door to door, it’s a different story.

Gimhae Airport Domestic Flights — The flight takes 1 hour, but getting to and from the airport is the problem

So here’s my take: Take it if you’ve snagged a special deal (prices sometimes drop to the ₩30,000 range) or if your destination is near Gimhae Airport (Sasang or Myeongji); otherwise, the train is a better option.
During peak season, it can even exceed ₩100,000—which is enough for a round-trip KTX ticket.

🚃 Mugunghwa·ITX — How to Travel Through Time

The Mugunghwa train costs in the upper 20,000-won range (about ₩28,600) for a trip lasting 5 hours and 30 minutes to 6 hours and 30 minutes, while the ITX-Saemaul and Ma-eum trains cost in the low 40,000-won range for a trip of around 5 hours.
Since it's neither fast nor very cheap, Only when the view outside the window is the main attraction I recommend it.

But the romance is real.
A half-day trip on the Gyeongbu Line local train, stopping at every station along the way—including Daejeon and Dongdaegu—is an experience in itself for travelers who aren’t in a hurry.

Let's do some math here.
Round-trip KTX between Seoul and Busan ₩119,600 But a 2-day pass costs ₩131,000—uh, if you only take the round trip, wouldn't the pass be a waste of money?
That's right.
However, If you just add one more leg to a round trip to Busan, you’ll immediately turn the tables. So, if your itinerary includes stops in Gyeongju, Jeonju, and Gangneung, the pass is definitely the better option.
